Description:
This rare and richly symbolic Afghan Bukhara rug is a masterwork of hand-knotting tradition, crafted in Kunduz by skilled Turkmen women. Woven using Biljik wool — a premium, imported wool from Spain and Germany known for its smoothness and softness — this rug stands out for both its quality and scale.
The warm, deep red color is achieved through natural dyes, primarily madder root, and adorned with iconic tribal guls—motifs passed down through generations of the Tekke, Ersari, Salor, and Kizil Ayak tribes.
Unlike traditional portable-sized rugs made for nomadic living, this rug’s larger, custom-made format suggests it was woven for a chieftain’s home or as a special family commission — making it a unique piece for collectors or connoisseurs of Central Asian art.
